About Us

The mission of the Family Education Centers of Hawaii is parent training in family leadership and youth training in effective group belonging.

Based in Manoa on the island of Oahu, the Family Education Centers of Hawaii (FECH) is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization that is focused on building sustainable lifestyles in families and youth through programs, community partnerships, workshops and speaking events which focus on sustainable agriculture, democratic parenting and preventing substance misuse. FECH’s office and program site, Hale Tuahine is located on the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Magoon Research Facility and its 10,000 square foot Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) garden is where much of the learning magic happens.

Our Programs

FECH’s two programs: the Sustainable Sciences Internship for Youth and the Sustainable Families Program are innovative interventions in preventing substance misuse in youth and families. Using gardening as a platform, participants learn skills in sustainable agriculture and how to “belong by contributing” in one’s family and community relationships.

Community Partnerships

FECH regularly engages with the community through its partnerships with the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Master Gardener Program, the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, etc.) and fellow substance use prevention-based agencies to provide resources on education in sustainability and substance use prevention.
